Queen Sonja had a pacemaker installed in January 2025 after atrial fibrillation during a ski trip required an airlift to Lillehammer. She was airlifted again months later from the family’s Easter chalet in Jotunheimen due to shortness of breath. The king and other royals have faced health struggles too: King Harald has had surgery, COVID bouts and pacemaker work, plus a February 2026 hospitalization. Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 52, living with chronic pulmonary fibrosis since 2018, has reportedly worsened, and Crown Prince Haakon said doctors will decide on further treatment.
